The Guardian: „Ringo Starr’s forthcoming solo album will feature bass and backing vocals from an old, mop-topped pal from Liverpool. Paul McCartney appears on two tracks on Y Not, Starr’s fifteenth solo record and the first he has produced himself.
„Paul was doing the Grammys, so he came over to the house and was playing bass on [new song] Peace Dream,“ Starr explained. „I played him this other track and Paul said, ‘Give me the headphones. Give me a pair of cans’. And he went to the mic and he just invented that part where he follows on my vocal. That was all Paul McCartney, and there could be nothing better.“
The song, Walk With Me, was co-written by Starr and Van Dyke Parks, the 66-year-old arranger who has worked with everyone from the Beach Boys to Joanna Newsom. McCartney’s vocals „make it bigger and … fuller“, Starr said. „It makes the song like a conversation between us, and that was Paul’s idea to do his part one beat behind me. That’s why he’s a gen-i-us and an incredible bass player.“
McCartney last teamed up with Starr for his 1998 album, Vertical Man, which also featured George Harrison and George Martin. More recently, they appeared together at a transcendental meditation benefit in New York earlier this year. Besides the former Beatle, Y Not’s other „gen-i-uses“ include Joss Stone, Ben Harper, All Starr bandmate Richard Marx and Ringo’s brother-in-law, Joe Walsh. Still, the Fab Four drummer hasn’t turned this into a grotesque comedy of cameos. Starr runs the show, also making his debut as producer.
„I was the least involved in the production of the Beatles’ records. And then [the same] with my solo records,“ he said. „Then suddenly it’s another point in your life, and you say, ‘I’m going to do this now’. So I’ll be producing everything I make from now on. That’s the good news. It’s a confidence thing, I suppose. And Y Not is really another way of me saying, ‘Yes I Can.’“ Slogan aside, there is no sign of Barack Obama on Starr’s new record.- Y Not will be released on 12 January 2010.“

Review by BBC News: „Sir Paul rolls back the years. For years, Sir Paul has been lamenting the loss of the Cavern and now he accepts that the new building at the same address is the Cavern and that this was his 281st gig at the venue.
In that sense, it was a pity that he chose to play in the larger back room rather than in the arched area which so closely resembles the original.
The stage was too small for the band’s hi-tech equipment and the modern lighting effects. Not to worry as Sir Paul was in brilliant form playing 12 songs in 40 minutes, mostly from Run Devil Run.
In any other circumstance, it would be a major boost for Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour to be playing Liverpool. Here he was one of the twin electric lead guitarists with Mick Green from the Pirates …
Sir Paul limited himself to short, pertinent introductions. He said that „Lonesome Town“ was „for lovers, past, present and future“, – make what you will of that.
He told us that John Lennon was impressed that he knew the words of „Twenty Flight Rock“, then he stuck to Chuck Berry’s original lyric for „Brown Eyed Handsome Man“ – repeating Chuck’s reference to the „Milo de Venus“ (sic).
He contorted his face like Gene Vincent when he sang „Bluejean Bop“, or maybe that’s the only way to sing the song.
Sir Paul’s current single revives the skiffle song, „No Other Baby“. I thought that this song was inconsequential but it sounded so much better live and it was good to hear him slow down the tempo and the volume for one number.
Sir Paul reeled off a couple of new songs – „What It Is“ and „Try Not To Cry“, but the biggest applause was for „I Saw Her Standing There“… quintessential Beatles, quintessential Paul McCartney and total magic. Although the large man in front of me did his best to obscure my view by waving his hands, this was the best moment I have ever seen on stage anywhere. No doubt about it, Sir Paul got back to where he once belonged.“

Review by nj.com: „Paul McCartney re-creates Beatles magic at Citi Field show. No rock performer, of any age, seems more delighted to be onstage. The weather wasn’t great (rain fell throughout much of the show, at times quite heavily), but the music was flawless.
McCartney played a bunch of new or relatively new songs, including the rousing anthem “Sing the Changes’ (from his 2008 ‘Electric Arguments’ album, released under the name the Fireman) and the fanciful ‘Flaming Pie’ (from his 1997 album of that name). But he didn’t stint on Beatles or Wings songs, and the second half of the show in particular was a parade of classics.
There was lots of lean, driving rock ‘n’ roll (‘Lady Madonna,’ ‘Back In the U.S.S.R.,’ ‘Day Tripper’) in this show, and plenty of timeless ballads (‘Yesterday,’ ‘Let It Be,’ ‘The Long and Winding Road’). ‘A Day In the Life’ segued into ‘Give Peace a Chance,’ and ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)’ into ‘The End’ (the final portion of the Abbey Road“medley).
Billy Joel, who played the last show at Shea, last year (with McCartney sitting in), guested on one of the encores, ‘I Saw Her Standing There,’ sharing lead vocals and playing muscular piano riffs.
McCartney dedicated the sweet ‘My Love’ to his late wife Linda, and ‘Hey Jude’ became a massive singalong. ‘Let Me Roll It’ was extended with a fiery jam that McCartney described as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Afterwards, he reminisced about seeing Hendrix play the ‘Sgt. Pepper’ title track in concert, almost immediately after the album was released.
McCartney played a ukulele that the late George Harrison gave him as he sang Harrison’s ‘Something.’ He also performed his affectionate tribute to the late John Lennon, ‘Here Today.’“

Review by StaticBlog: „Beginning with ‘Drive My Car,’ McCartney tirelessly powered through 34 songs with Beatles classics outnumbering solo tracks roughly two to one, but he delivered all his songs at full-tilt energy, whether it was last year’s ‘Highway’ or ‘Eleanor Rigby’ from 43 years ago. After recalling his recent driving tour of Route 66, which took him through Oklahoma, he paused in front of the 20,000-strong crowd ‘to take a moment to drink it all in.’ Then, as he performed ‘The Long and Winding Road,’ photos taken on ‘the mother road’ flashed on the fiber-optic screen behind his band.
McCartney filled the set with historical grace notes, talking about how he wrote ‘Blackbird’ during the Civil Rights Movement, ‘imagining a black girl going through all that,’ and offering poignant tributes to his late wife Linda (‘My Love’ from 1972’s ‘Red Rose Speedway’) and fellow Beatles John Lennon and George Harrison. He began Harrison’s ‘Something’ on ukelele, an instrument both men loved, then expandedthe song to its full ‘Abbey Road’ arrangement as rare photos of Harrison flashed on the screen. When he played Lennon’s ‘A Day in the Life,’ he effortlessly segued into his former songwriting partner’s protest hit, ‘Give Peace a Chance’ …
While McCartney left out some key classics he played during his 2002 show in Oklahoma City, it was hard to be disappointed by the massive set list as his band, featuring guitarists Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray, keyboardist Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens and drummer Abe Laboriel Jr., masterfully recreated the classic arrangements on ‘Paperback Writer,’ ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘Live and Let Die,’ which was accompanied by massive flames and fireworks rising from the stage …“

Liverpool Echo: „SIR PAUL McCartney’s stunning Anfield show was today hailed as his best gig ever. His management team said they had never heard him perform better. And the fans in the 36,000 sell-out crowd agreed after his emotional two hour homecoming concert set up a spectacular 08 summer. Sir Paul told the ecstatic crowd that he was in: „The city of culture at the centre of the universe.“ „LIVERPOOL I love you,“ said Sir Paul taking to the stage for his triumphant homecoming. And the feeling was entirely mutual. The city’s favourite son delivered his gift to his hometown in person, with a spectacular centrepiece concert in its Capital of Culture year. „In the city of culture at the centre of the universe,“ he grinned. „I was born just down the road from here in Walton hospital.“ And Sir Paul certainly pulled out all the stops for the city he holds so dear. With a set-list reading like a greatest hits from heaven, he powered through everything from Hippy Hippy Shake to The Long and Winding Road. Along the way he packed in Blackbird, Eleanor Rigby, Penny Lane, Live and Let Die, Let It Be, Hey Jude, Yesterday and Lady Madonna.
It was a performance packed with emotion. From the quiet, heartfelt dedication of My Love to his adored wife Linda, to the tribute to George with Something – on the ukulele no less – this was a show from the heart.
And his hometown is something that will always mean the world to Sir Paul.
“It’s great for me because every time I come to Liverpool my memories come flooding back,” he said. “Me and the lads. I remember there was this thing that me and George used to do. JS Bach. He got it right, I got it wrong.” And launched into Blackbird. The crowd sang along to every word.
And Sir Paul clearly felt at home.“
Paul McCartney Tour 2009 “Good Evening Europe”

Oktober. Die Ticketpreise für Hamburg liegen laut Veranstalter Karsten Jahnke zwischen 59,10 EUR und 159,60 EUR.
Die Tourneedaten:
2. Dezember – Hamburg, Color Line Arena
3. Dezember – Berlin, O2 World
9. Dezember – Arnhem, Gelredome
10. Dezember – Paris, Bercy
16. Dezember – Köln, Lanxess Arena
neu: 17. Dezember – Köln, Lanxess Arena („extra added date“)
